Fazenda Chapadão de Ferro, positioned in Brazil's reputable Cerrado Mineiro region, is the fruitful labor of Carlúcio Barbosa dos Santos. At an elevation of 1,188 meters, this magnificent farm is nestled within the Chapadão de Ferro microregion - a unique landscape, cradled by a semi-formed volcanic cone, which contributes distinct characteristics to the coffee grown here.
Carlúcio's journey with coffee commenced in 1994 when his uncle introduced him to the intriguing world of coffee cultivation around Patrocínio. He embraced this new path wholeheartedly, even marrying Dona Kelly, a woman born into a coffee-producing lineage. This journey led him to establish his own farm in partnership with his brother-in-law, a humble three hectares of coffee at Fazenda Chapadão de Ferro.
Dedication and perseverance shone through as Carlúcio and his brother-in-law managed to expand their coffee plantation to 20 hectares despite the lack of equipment and numerous challenges. Today, the entire family is devoted to coffee production, nurturing every phase from planting to harvesting and drying with meticulous care and attention to quality.
Their efforts are manifest in the exceptional Mundo Novo variety, the outcome of a natural cross between Sumatra and Red Bourbon, discovered in 1943. The beans undergo a natural processing, imparting tasting notes of brown sugar, dark chocolate, and dried date. Its nuanced flavor profile and rich textures have made this coffee a favorite among espresso aficionados.
