Light vs Medium Roast: What's the Difference?
What are the main differences between light and medium roast coffee? Which one should you get? Is one better than the other?
Here we explain the main differences between them in an attempt to illustrate what we look for when we buy a bag of coffee, and what roast profile we aim to achieve when roasting our coffee.
Light roasts keep the most of the bean's original character, so you get bright, nuanced flavors and a more acidic, complex cup. Medium light and medium roasts bring a little more sweetness and balance while still letting the origin shine. That is why we roast light to medium light at Syzygy, and why we prefer light or medium roasts even for our espresso. These roasts reward a good grind and fresh water, so they are a great place to start when you are dialing in your brew.
